,Grape varieties and style: red dry wine. 100% Syrah. Oak
Vineyards: La Tour vineyard in Aymavilles, Italy.
Terroir: Loose, sandy, moraine soil. Western exposure. Altitude 650 metres (2,133 feet).
First year production: 2004.
Annual production: 8.000 bottles.
Surface: Training method: Guyot.
Harvest: harvested by hand at the end of October.
Vinification: 10 to 12 days fermentation in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature conditions(28°, C / 82°, F). 12 months ageing in 300 litre (79 gallon) French barrels. Bottle aged for 6 months.
Characteristics: ruby and garnet highlights. Ripe summer blueberry and spices (green pepper) with a very slight touch of hazelnut on the nose. Full and round on the palate with dark fruit and smoky cedar elements. Long, fruit driven finish with firm, chewy tannins.
Food pairings: soups, and pasta with meat based sauce like ragù,. Medium and long cured cheeses (for example, “,toma”,, “,fontina”,), fondue and red meat.
Side notes: because wineries in the Aosta area were not allowed to produce Syrah-based D.O.C. designated wines in the Aosta Valley region, Les Crê,tes winery began producing the Coteau la Tour as table wine in the 1995. Even without the coveted D.O.C. the Coteau La Tour won still acknowledged as an award winning wine in Italy, for example, receiving the “,tre bicchieri”, of Gambero Rosso in 2001). Wine regulations have changed since then and now permit D.O.C. designated Aosta Valley Syrahs. Since the 2007 harvest Les Cretes has been proudly producing its D.O.C. designated Syrah
