Ottoz
In the second half of the XIXth century Laurent Ottoz emigrated to France with his family. He was eight years old. He was still a boy when he joined a glorious trans-alpine distillery where he worked for several years and gained valuable experience. Later he went to live in Marseilles, where there was a numerous Aosta Valley colony.
From his "Café des Alpins", in the old port district, Laurent supplied the sourroundings with the spirits he produced. In 1902 he returned to the Aosta Valley and began manufacturing the Ottoz Génépy.
For many, many years, the Ottoz Génépy represented the typical Aosta Valley product for those who loved the region. As time went by other local brands appeared on the market. But today, after more than a century, the first and most famous génépy remains the Ottoz Génépy, synonymous of Aosta Valley since 1902.
Génépy Ottoz exists in several variants: the classic genepy, the High-mountain genepy, the genepy without colouring, not forgetting the centennary genepy, created in 2002 for the hundred year anniversary of the brand.
